A cross-platform app that helps casual players book pickup games, coordinate teams, and build neighbourhood sports communities. Designed around low-friction scheduling and real social stickiness.
SportsSync is a scheduling and community app for casual athletes. It replaces the group-chat chaos of "who's in for Sunday?" with a clear way to post games, fill rosters, and find new players nearby.
The goal was to make organising a weekly kickaround feel as easy as sending a text — while giving organisers the tools to grow a real community around their games.
We shadowed 14 organisers running weekly pickup games across football, basketball, and badminton. Every single one ran their community out of a mix of WhatsApp groups, Google Forms, and spreadsheets — none of which were designed for the job.
The recurring pain points: chasing RSVPs, splitting costs, and onboarding new players without spamming the group.
SportsSync distils the organiser's job into three moves: post a game with venue and time, fill the roster from community regulars or nearby players, and settle up after the game with split-cost payments.
For players, the home screen surfaces nearby games tailored to their sport and skill level. A lightweight profile (positions, availability, pace) makes joining a new group feel less like cold-calling.
In the beta, the median time to post a game dropped from 4 minutes (spreadsheet + group chat) to 42 seconds. 4-week retention landed at 71% — organisers brought their whole community along with them.
The most repeated piece of feedback: "our WhatsApp group is finally quiet on weekdays."
